| The Carnival of Venice |
The
Carnival of Venice became very important in Middle Age. Venice is the
ideal city for a Carnival, for the winding streets, the romantic bridges
and the squares, especially S. Marco square; the Carnival of Venice
is an original feast with many events, and it's famous in the world.
"Bautta" is the symbolic mask of this Carnival: it is born
in the XVIII century and it's arrived at those days equal. This mask
has a "Face" with a little mask made of silk, velvet, cloth
or cardboard that is possible to take off from face and to hang on the
right ear, and it has, besides, a lace cape, sometimes pointed beard
or "lattice" with a hood and a black hat with three points,
called "tricorno", and a black or red cloak made of cloth
or silk, called "tabarro". Usually rich people decorated this
custom with gold ornaments and pointed beards, but the customs don't
must be recognizable in order to hide the real identity of the persons.
